Week ending 29th January 2022

Hi reader,

WEDNESDAY

Another record field of 106 for the Vets Australia Day 4 Man Ambrose and free sausage sizzle and drink at Marty’s Hut.

Thanks to Jimmy and his able BBQ assistants, Nick Kostalas (fried onion specialist) and Wayne McKinnon (a deft hand on the BBQ). And, to our NTP sponsors Noosa Outlook Specialty Meats, Richies Bakery and Cooroy Harvest Fresh for supplying the produce.

A big thanks to John Butler for his generous sponsorship of the event. The sponsor gets to nominate rules for the event so, no limit on tee shots and a ‘Most Use of The Course’ prize worth more than runner up prize. The winners each received $70 in their member account.

The Carty Team (Wayne Carty, Bob Atkin, Dave Chapman, Garry Stephens) claimed the main prize with 54.5 with the Prendergast Team (Jim Prendergast, Gary Webster, Bruce Wilshire, Glen Johnstone) a close second on 54.75.

The Piggott Team ( Peter Piggott, David Sweet) claimed ‘Most Use of The Course’ (NAGA) prize.

Rumour has it that Marc Bright, coordinator of the All Abilities Golf Group, is starting a new group, the No Abilities Golf Group. Marc was out on the course on Wednesday and after watching the golf approached a couple of our Vets suggesting they would be good candidates for membership!

HOST DAY PROGRAM

We hosted Gympie in our first host day of the year. The field was 62 with Cooroy winning 8 of the 9 major prizes.

Best scores came from C grade with Mike Smith scanning 39 points, from Anthony Jones 37 and Tony Atkins 33.

Gary Stephens came second in B grade with 35 in a countback from Darryl Ayers. Garry is on a hot streak at the moment.

Winning scores were low in A grade; there was a four way tie on 34 points with countback separating Geoff Pembroke, the winner, from Terry Lyons, Dave Lyons and Brian Clemow. Fifteen players got a ball in the rundown which went to 30.

Cooroy took out four NTP’s – congratulations to Ron Blount (6th), Wayne Carty (10th) David Moalam (12th ) and Peter Crosby (15th).

There are early indications of big fields for our hosting Pelican Waters on 7th February and Mt Coolum on 14th February.

Accordingly, we intend moving the first tee off time forward for Pelican Waters to 7:00, for their players. We can send a few groups of Cooroy players earlier than that. If you are a walker or a single cart driver, you may be playing with three visitors. We don’t want to be teeing off later than 9:30 as it is too long a day for the committee. However for Mt. Coolum, that may not be possible.

We get details of visitors seven days before the event, so it is not possible to do on-line entry earlier – this will be done by the committee, taking into account the nomination sheet. A “final” draft will be put on our website as soon as possible.
