A very chilly start and it didn’t improve as the day progressed.
|
Thanks to 'The Top Enders' (Andrew Dick, Mike Smith, Ian Lumsden, Jack Timm) for sponsorship. Grant assured us he spent time in NT so he is entitled to pose with the NT flag. A stylised version of the Territory’s floral emblem, the Sturt’s Desert Rose, appears on the flag.

Mr Handicap had a good day with only one player doing better than par. There were however, some good stories.
|
Gold member, Mike Miklenda, age 90 and a few years, took third place in C Grade with 36 and a par on the 4th. Kevin Pickford won C Grade with 38, the best score of the day, from runner up Don Clelland 36 on countback.
|
Wayne Carty continued his consistent form to take B Grade with 36 from Bruce McLean 34 on countback from Graham Laing.
|
Mike Kent shot par to take A Grade from Laurie Staples 35 and Mark Kelly 34.
|
Hans Herrle achieved a unique double. Hans put the ball in the hole with his second shot on both the 4th and 10th to take the NTPs. Ron Blount also put the ball in the hole with his second shot on the 10th.

Another of our Gold members, Lionel Willett, also age 90 years plus, grabbed the NTP on the 3rd.
|
Gold Membership recognises commitment to and support for Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club over a long period of concurrent membership - a minimum of 25 years. We have three gold members, Mike Miklenda, Lionel Willett and John Stewart and two Life Members, Jim Penman and Jim Henderson.
|
Round 1 of the Old Course Challenge went to Don Clelland with 21. Don wins two bottles wine. We play round 2 next Wednesday sponsored by Lionel Willett, with the round 2 winner also winning 2 bottles of wine. The Old Course Challenge winner is decided by the aggregate of the two rounds. The winner receives an embroidered vets logo shirt, one dozen golf balls and a suitable perpetual trophy.

A family of black swans kept a wary eye on a field of 115 players during our host day visit to Maroochy River. It was a great day for golf - little wind and all would have enjoyed the challenge of putting on their magnificent greens.
|
The swans proved to be a good omen for the 28 Cooroy players with Cooroy winning three of the nine major prizes. Paul Williams (41) and Wayne Carty (40) took out first and second places in B grade, while Dave Chapman (41) came second in C grade. We have vouchers of $50, $35 and $35 for these gents respectively.
|
Greg Michael, playing off a 9 handicap, continued his good form with 38 points, and now leads in the Jim Penman Host Day Trophy.
|
|
Twelve Cooroy players got a ball in the run down which went to 31 – a long rundown covering more than half the field, as there were no NTP’s. The following players have a ball to collect: Greg Michael, Paul Korczynski, Terry Lyons, Tony Foster, Dave Lyons, Don Clelland, Jim Henderson, Peter Jeucken, Doug Pearce, Lance Horn, Dale Rickard and Scott Bennett.
