Hi reader,

At last some sunshine and a course slowly drying out!

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

It's that time of year again. Renewal invoices can be collected from the bar.

If you are concerned about cost or have other concerns and are unsure about renewing please speak to Club Manager, Wayne Patston, before making a final decision as there may be alternatives more suitable to your playing lifestyle.

FINANCES

The big news is of course the weather with the prolonged spell of rain impacting both social and competition play, placing pressure on cash flow which, with other factors, will lead to a loss for this financial year.

However, with continued sunshine a positive result for June will assist the financial outcome for the year.

You can assist by increasing your patronage during June and spending any credits in your Member account before the end of the financial year.

GEMLIFE

A Gemlife representative and course designer Graham Papworth have visited the course to discuss the course changes that may be required if the proposed development goes ahead but as yet no firm proposal has been tabled.

SATURDAY COMPETITION

The Club has introduced an 11:00 am tee time cut-off for our Saturday competition to make the volunteer starters job less onerous and to allow social players onto the course earlier.

There have been instances where the starters have had to endure a 12 hour day.

JUNIOR COACHING PROGRAM

Cyril Trist, PGA Professional, is providing coaching for juniors on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30. The cost is: members - free, non members $5.00 per session. Contact the club for more detail.

Encouraging juniors to take up golf is critical to the long term success of the game and future of our club.

This program is designed for youngsters who have that special desire to become good golfers and provides a pathway to full club membership and club competition. Golf experience is not necessary but you do need a passion to play the game well.

PATRON

The Management Committee has recommended that Marty Hunt, State Member for Nicklin, become the new club patron. Although not an avid golfer Marty is willing to help us promote the club and be on hand for special events and assist in any way he can.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION

Golf in Australia continues to decline reflecting the challenges facing traditional sport from a range of societal and demographic pressures. The good news is however, that Queensland remained steady with 6 of the 14 districts experiencing a net increase in membership numbers. The Sunshine Coast experienced the strongest results with 2.2% growth. Population growth in this area is also strong as is the growth of tourism.

The focus of our marketing, promotion and communication efforts is to raise our visibility and awareness of what we offer to ensure we participate in this growth. The objective is to increase course utilisation (rounds played), attract more social players and members and ensure a stable, sustainable financial position.

Here are some of the activities.
  • The Management Committee has signed off the Vision, Mission and Values Statement for The Club. This statement is important as it provides a framework and guide for what we do and how we operate. You can view the statement by clicking the button above.
  • Creation of a uniform visual identity for the Cooroy Golf Club brand through use of our logo on all stationery, promotional and communication material. The stylised mountains and trees logo is the business face of The Club and an important part of our story. We want The Club to be immediately recognised by our logo.
  • Leverage off the beauty of the hinterland and cache associated with Noosa and the coast as a tourist destination by creating recognition of Cooroy as 'the golf destination' in the Noosa Hinterland. We are part of a unique Noosa Hinterland experience.
  • Promotion of our unique points of difference:
    - No booking necessary for social golf with 9 and 18 hole rounds available.
    - Options for 9 and 18 competitions for members and visitors; you are guaranteed a game.
    - location in Noosa Hinterland.
  • Creation of a general use brochure to promote The Club as widely as possible, particularly in the tourist/holiday market.
  • Advertising (see picture above) and editorial in the Sunshine Coast section of Inside Golf Magazine, one of the most popular golf magazines in Australia.
  • Advertising in the local rag.
  • Networking through Tourism Noosa has created opportunities for working with other businesses to create, for example, Stay and Play packages.
  • Regular publication of MEMBER COMMUNICATION and NEWS UPDATE CHIP IN eNewsletters aimed at keeping members and subscribers up to date with what's happening at Cooroy Golf Club.
VOLUNTEERS
We are pleased to announce that Vice President, Peter Piggott, has taken on the role of Volunteer Coordinator with responsibility for overseeing and coordinating activities involving volunteers. The role includes liaising with individual Job/Project Coordinators, volunteers and club officials.

Participating in volunteer work provides an opportunity for members to assist with activities in which they may have a special interest or expertise and to influence outcomes. You will find it very rewarding and may even learn new skills. The amount of time given to volunteering is entirely at the members discretion.

The immediate priority is ensuring all volunteers are registered so that we have a good understanding of the sort of activities in which each member volunteer has an interest and also any expertise or knowledge they may be able to provide.

If you are not currently registered you can do so by clicking the button above - it will only take a few minutes. You can view a list of registered volunteers on the Volunteers page of our website.
