2020 Grant Aussie Attack

WEDNESDAY

Ably led by Grant Smallacombe and supported by team Vice Captain, Con Russell, the well drilled Aussie Attack team put in a solid performance to claim victory in the annual Internationals vs Aussie challenge, making it three in a row. And, very keen to make it four in a row. Each member of the winning team receives two golf balls.

'Aussie Attack' (Grant Smallacombe) - 363
'Internationals’ (Jim Henderson) - 345
'True Blue Aussies' (Dave Lyons) - 341

Grant reminded Dave that it's been five years since the 'True Blue Aussies' one and only win - Australia hasn't been in drought that long! Dave countered that the 'True Blue Aussies' won the initial
challenge and hold the honour of being the first name engraved on the prestigious pewter mug.

Thanks to our sponsors for the day, 'The Shankers' aka Terry McCulloch and Grant Smallacombe, neither of whom lived up to their moniker, contributing valuable points to their team.

Other highlights from Wednesday: Terry McCulloch shot an impressive 41 to take A Grade from Andy Stewart 37 and Tony Bernhagen 36 c/b.

John Stewart shot a very steady 39 to take B Grade from Grant Smallacombe 36 and Terry Wilson 35 c/b.

Tony Kershaw hung on to take C Grade with 37 from Jim Prendergast 36 and Mike Hill 35.

Brian Clemow eagled the 1st and was excited about it - well done.

New member, Wayne Hastie, hit the 13th green with his second shot but it trickled back into the water. Wayne decided that if he couldn't land his next shot within 10 foot he wouldn't make the long walk across. Wayne proceeded to sink the chip for par! Wayne also claimed two NTP's, sharing one with David Tink, our first tied NTP.

HOST DAYS

Thirty Cooroy Vets visited Gympie and found the course in good condition. The greens were very good and true, a big improvement from previous visits, so well done Gympie. However, they have not had the rain we have seen, so a couple of inches of rain would do wonders.

We featured in the prizes, with Andy Stewart equaling the best Stableford score of 38 in A grade, but was beaten on count back to take 3rd place. Lance Horn took out second place in C grade with 38 points.

The sponsor for the day was Wayne Hastie who recently joined Cooroy from Gympie and thanks to his generosity the ball run-down went to 31. So, the following got a ball in the run down.

Andrew Dick, Dave Lyons, Doug Pearce, Peter Crosby, Andre Smit, Brian Clemow, David Tink, Paul Williams, Dale Rickard, Michael Kent, Mike Miklenda and Richard Gibson.

Jack Timm won second prize in the raffle.

We host Maroochy River Vets on Monday, 19th October. It is a time start in three time blocks: Early 7:00-8:00 am, Mid 8:00-9:00 am, Late 9:00-9:30 am.

The nomination sheet is available in the clubhouse. Please indicate you time preference. More detail to follow.

NEXT WEDNESDAY

A reminder not to pack a cut lunch next week as we will be providing a ‘Jimmy Henderson Legendary Hamburger’ and drink at Marty's Hut.

It is the October Monthly Medal.

XMAS LUNCH

With COVID-19 restrictions it is unlikely we can host a sit down Vets Xmas lunch in the clubhouse so we are considering the alternatives.

The favourite at this stage is a time start with a leisurely stop at Marty's Hut for a catered Spanish Paella.
