Lionel Willett presents 2020 Old Course Challenge winner, Jimmy Henderson, with the perpetual trophy and monogrammed golf shirt.

Lionel is one of the founding members of Cooroy Vets and in collaboration with Captain, Grant, initiated the Old Course Challenge in 2017. As he is keen to see the 'challenge' continue in perpetuity Lionel has prepaid sponsorship for the next 5 years. Thanks Lionel.

WEDNESDAY
Another great field of 94, including three new members and a visitor for the September Monthly Medal and first round of the 2020 Vets Championship. Thanks to John Madill Toyota for sponsoring our Monthly Medal.
Jimmy Henderson returned to golf and picked up a NTP on the 15th earning him a Noosa Outlook Prestige Meats voucher.
There were some very good scores with Ken McKay and Con Russell earning honorable mention. After landing his tee shot close to the pin on the 6th to take the NTP Ken proceeded to 4 putt - some sort of record! Ken planned to head off on holidays next week but, after his best ever score, has convinced his wife to delay departure for a week.
Highlights of R1 and Monthly Medal: Gary Menyweather secured top spot in A Grade with 66 from Richard Gibson 67 on countback from Peter Buchbach.
Ken McKay's best ever score saw him take B Grade from Bruce Otto 68 on countback from Bruce McLean.

Con Russell took C Grade with 64 from Andrew Carson 67 and Larry McErvale 68.
|
|
One of our new members, Richard Gibson, took out the Kevin Tonkin Best Gross prize with 73 from Peter Kennedy 75 and Grathan Leatherbarrow 76.
|
The scene is set for an exciting Round 2 of the 2020 Vets Championship next week.

HOST DAYS
|
There are still spots available for the host day visit to Gympie on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020. Nominations close on 16th September 2020. The opportunity to play host days between now and end of 2020 will be limited.

The annual International All Stars vs Aussies event is one of our most popular.
The field is divided into 3 teams according to heritage with the best 10 scores from each team counting towards the coveted pewter mug trophy. The team captains are already scheming and planning tactics.
|
With winning performances in 2018 and 2019, 'Aussie Attack' team captain, Grant has decided to reappoint Con Russell as team vice captain with a brief to distract the opposition from playing well and provide team motivation. Grant is clearly determined to hang on to the Pewter Mug to make it three in a row!
If you get approached offering inducements to temporarily change your heritage so you can join a particular team don't be too alarmed as it is allowed under the 'no holds barred' rules of the event. After all, the losing captains are required to ensure the pewter mug is filled with beer for the winning captain for the duration of the afternoon.
