Hi reader,
2020 06 Vets v Greens Staff 01

WEDNESDAY

A beautiful crisp winters day saw a great field of 97 for a 4 Man Ambrose and the popular annual Vets versus Greens Staff Challenge. This is the one time each year when Greens staff get to be careless about leaving things lying around on the course.

Thanks to our prize donors, We Stand Tall, aka Ray Glover and Dave Lyons, for sponsoring the day. Although retired from golf, Ray says he will continue to sponsor and join us regularly to enjoy the social side of the Vets.

Todd delivered on his promise to make the event even more challenging with tractors, mowers, strange blue and yellow figures rising from an icy 5th fairway, empty drums and other assorted obstacles on the fairways and greens.

Players also had to negotiate a toilet seat wrapped around the 9th pin. Several teams rose to the challenge and birdied the hole, including one putt that avoided the gap, jumped the seat and into the hole. Perhaps next time Todd could leave some toilet paper on the flag stick to wipe away the tears of frustration.

Four visitors from Maleny Golf Club must have wondered if they had the right location after they hit off on the 1st Hole as flag placement wasn't on the green! However, they quickly adapted to the challenge and finished in the rundown.

The day unfolded as a very close challenge until the 18th green where an impossible pin placement tipped things in favour of the Greens Staff. That makes it 3 in a row to the Greens Staff!!! The Vets need to rethink their strategy for next year to be any chance of clawing back a win. A great day – thanks to Todd and the boys for their efforts and creativity.

Tony Hayes scored a Hole-in-One on the 6th, helping his team of Ian Lumsden, Tony Bernhagen and Derek Wood take the 4 Man Ambrose honours with 54⅜. Tony collected 6 golf balls and will be presented with the ball mounted on a trophy later in the year along with a logo golf shirt.

The Ray Nolan Team of Ray, Roman Pajak, Tom Williams and Tony Doughty took Runner Up with 55¼. Ray is relocating to live at Tin Can Bay so this is a fitting memory for his final game as a member of Cooroy Vets. Ray assures us he will be visiting from time to time to catch up with old friends.

Third Place went to the Kerry Davies Team of Kerry, Lionel Willett, Bronco Price and Don Esposito
with 57⅛.

LUCKY DRAW

Until the Government lifts restrictions, and we get back to normal, please note you do not need to collect your bottle of wine on game day. However, you need to collect it as soon as practical, otherwise, Grant might decide to drink the wine rather than carry it back and forth from home - after all, it is excellent wine.

Lucky Draw Winners: Keith Harkins, Glen Johnstone, Jim Bisset, Gary Dwyer, Jim Gregg, Tony Doughty
