Hi reader,

HOST DAY visit to Mt COOLUM

A reminder that online nominations for Mt Coolum close on Friday, 16th February 2018. We currently have 22 nominations.

The Jim Penman Host Trophy is underway for 2018 with increased prize levels which will be announced shortly. Good results to start the year might come in handy later in the year so don't hold back nominating for Mt Coolum.

HOSTING PELICAN WATERS

With rain almost everywhere else on the coast Cooroy turned on a great day for the visit by 35 players from Pelican Waters on Monday.

And, there were some good scores with Paul Mitchell (P) taking out A Grade with 39, Jason (back to form) Egan B Grade with 42 and Jim Prendergast C Grade with 38.

Mike Miklenda has a bottle of wine to collect from the raffle.

The only downer - two of our members failed to show without notification. No names, no pack-drill but initials are RN and GF. There is a lot of work involved behind the scenes in organising these Host Days. This organisation is not helped by 'no shows'.

On the positive side - two Pelican Waters players got caught up in the heavy traffic at the other end of the Coast and rang to say they were on their way but would be a little late. We reserved a car park for them so they drove straight in and were ushered onto the course not too far behind the field.

WEDNESDAY - American Foursome

Getting into a rhythm with an American Foursome format can be a challenge especially when your playing partner is not so accommodating in playing the ball to your preferred position. But that’s what makes golf ‘interesting’ and wasn’t a problem for our winners.

We had a tie for first place - Jack Timm/Mike Kent - 59 and John Cairns/Geoff Edwards - 59. Geoff also collected a NTP on 6th.

Third place went to John Hillis/Tony Bernhagen - 59.5 with fourth place going to Rod Harper/Lance Horn - 60.

Terry Lyons hit a cracking 6 iron to take the NTP on 15th - it ended up very close. Terry's excitement could be heard from the far corners of the course.

NEXT WEDNESDAY

Next week is a Stableford and 8:00 am shotgun start.

The alias selected by the competition sponsors (Jason Egan, Ray Lally, Greg Flanagan, John Cairns, Tony Bernhagen) has a ‘jazz/blues’ flavour!

VETS COMMITTEE - RESPONSIBILITY CHANGES

This year we have some 78 golf events on our calendar - Wednesdays, Host Days, District Events and Invitation Days.

Organising and managing such a large number of events involves significant effort and dedication of time, which falls largely to Grant.

With a view to sharing the workload and providing an opportunity for more direct involvement, Greg Michael is taking over responsibility for organising and managing our Host Day Competitions (home and away), District Events and Invitation Days.

Greg will take over after a few days away to prepare himself and will be supported by Grant, Jim and the rest of the Vets Committee.

Jim continues as 'Chief Providor' ensuring Host Day pre-game refreshments are first class.
