VETS – Week ending 29th August 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER

by Grant Smallacombe

On Monday we hosted Headland and Noosa.  Both clubs sent very good numbers, and our total field size was 92. See picture below.

Jeff Jones, one of our visitor’s from Headland had a real good day, he not only had a win in A-Grade, but he also by scored a Hole in One on the 15th.

Andrew Dick and Warren Hay were our best players and both finished with 39 points.

Check out the leader’s in the Jim Penman Host Day Trophy on our pinup board.  Errol Radley still holds a lead but there are 28 players’ who can still win a prize.

Wednesday’s Stableford drew a field of 86, and I gather that most enjoyed the short break at Marty’s Hut for the Free Hamburger’s and Drink’s that were once again prepared beautifully by Jim Henderson and his assistant Rod Booth.

Sutcliffe JohnThe golfing highlight of the day was by John Sutcliffe (left with Jim Henderson) who scored a Hole in One on the 131m 12th.

We thank Ken McKay for being our trophy donor for the day.   Unfortunately Ken could not play due to an injury.   Please thank him if you won a prize.

What an improvement by Dennis Beckhaus on the 18th this week, (a 20 shot improvement that included only 1 shot out of the bunker).  It goes to show that practice makes perfect.

The gap is closing in our Most Consistent Stableford Score Competition.  Peter Buchbach holds a 5 point lead, but there are many others ready to pounce.

Best of luck to all of our players in Monday’s District Carnival at the new Maroochy River course.  The Cooroy Vets contingent is 36 – a great effort.

COOROY GOLF CLUB WEBSITE

The website has had a makeover to provide a new look and feel – check it out.

The new site is mobile friendly so you can view it on your smart phone.

MEMBERS GUEST DAY

A reminder that on Wednesday, 9th September we have our annual MEMBER’S GUEST DAY.

Barbacue GolferIt is a 4 Man Ambrose event where we encourage you to bring along a guest.  Your guest will only pay the same $12.00 entry fee as you do to play.   He needs to be aged 55 plus and if he does not have a current handicap he will be given one at the Captain’s discretion.

Guests can include past Cooroy Vets.  If they are not able to play golf we would love to see them come along for the sausage sizzle and catch up with old friends.

We are hoping some of our sponsors can come along so members can meet them if you haven’t already done so.

It will be an 8:00am shotgun start with prize sponsorship by Bruce Cowan.

There will be a Free Sausage Sizzle at completion of play and plenty of prizes on offer.

NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to new members Geoff Edwards and Bob Hutchinson.  Make them feel welcome.

We move to SUMMER START TIMES from 1st September.

VISITING VETERAN GOLFERS

Your support in making them feel welcome is appreciated.  Many are now old friends returning each year for a game with Cooroy Vets.

RAFFLE DRAWS

We are making some changes to the timing of our free raffle draws on staggered start days so that winners can collect their prize immediately on returning to the club house after a game – more shortly.
