Vets – Results for 22nd July 2015

CAPTAIN’s CORNER (Grant Smallacombe)

As a sponsor of this week’s 4BBB Stableford event it was great to see a good size field of 80 turn up to play.   I would like to thank my co-sponsor in Nick Kostalas for providing 24 balls and joining me as sponsor for the day.

After quite a bit of deliberating we have finally come up with a new shirt colour.  If you were not aware, the previous shirt is no longer available so we have had to come up with something different from those used by the other 10 clubs in the district. The new shirt pictured below can be ordered through Grant or Rod, we are hopeful of ordering 50 plus of these shirts so we can keep the price to $35.00. The shirts will have the Cooroy Veterans Golf Club logo on one side and your name is embroided on the other side.   I encourage everyone to purchase one as they not only define our club from others but they are very handy when people forget your name.

I will have an order form for the shirts available at the Club next Wednesday.  I am also contemplating having an “International All Stars” vs “The Aussies” Stableford Competition soon and will ask for a bit of other information from you on the shirt order form.

Round 1 of the Singles Matchplay Championship was supposed to be completed by the 22nd of July; there are still a few groups that have not completed their game so we are giving you a week’s grace.   The following are required to play on or before Wednesday the 29th of July:

  • Greg Flanagan vs Derek Clayton
  • Denis Beckhaus vs David Jones
  • Nick Kostalas vs Michael Loe
  • Ray Lally vs Errol Radley

If you play your match-play on Wednesday you are required to either play at the front or rear of the field.   Round 2 needs to be completed by the 5th of August and those who have advanced so far are Tony Kershaw, Dave Lyons, Paul O’Hare, and Mike Smith.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may have noticed my note on next week’s time sheet regarding erasing a player’s name from the time sheet without their consent.   This is definitely not on.   You may of course remove your own name anytime you wish.   Also frowned upon is putting a playing partner’s name down when you know they will not be playing.   We like to see groups of 4 going out, not 2’s and 3’s.

FAREWELL TO DI

Most player’s stayed for the presentation and also to bid farewell to “Di” who is retiring after having spent more than 30 years working behind the bar.

We wish Di well and the Vet’s presented her with a very nice bunch of flowers to acknowledge the support she has given us over the years.

Di is a bit shy about having her photo taken but relented on this special occasion – pictured with l to r Kevin Crundall (Vets President),  Jim Henderson (Vets Vice Captain) and Grant Smallacombe (Vets Captain) – a rose amongst the thorns!

MEMBERSHIP

Welcome aboard to new member Graeme Meade.  Graeme made a great start with the Vets picking up a NTP Cooroy Harvest Fresh voucher and a meat tray in the mega raffle.

Make him feel welcome.

CATERING on WEDNESDAY

Unfortunately 246 ate Catering have withdrawn from providing lunch on Wednesday as it is not proving economically viable for them.  They will however continue to cater for special events such as our host days.

In future pies, sausage rolls, wraps and sandwiches will be available from the bar on Wednesday.
