Cooroy Golf Club Newsletter – June 2025

,

Dear members,

We hope this message finds you well and drying out after what was an unseasonably wet Autumn.

Firstly, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to the 50 new members who have joined our club following the recent membership drive. It’s wonderful to see our community growing, and we thank Club Manager Wayne for his initiative and hard work in bringing this to life.

Unfortunately, the wet weather has had a significant impact on play and revenue, with the club currently tracking down on revenue from the previous year. This year, we experienced the wettest autumn in a long time, with the course closed for approximately 45 days. That’s around 45 days of lost play, with an average of roughly 45 rounds per day — a significant blow to our usual activity.

That said, the Management Committee would like to reassure members that the club remains in a sound financial position. We sincerely thank all staff for their flexibility during this period and for going the extra mile to maintain the club’s operations and facilities.

With the course conditions still recovering, we ask all members to continue supporting our greens staff and volunteers by:

  • Always carrying a sand bucket and filling divots
  • Repairing pitch marks on the greens
  • Respecting “No Cart” zones and following the 90-degree rule when directed

These small acts help preserve the course and show respect for the tireless work of our team.

Facility Improvements

The club’s solar system, which was recently damaged in a storm, has now been replaced under insurance. In addition, the clubhouse entrance is now easier to access thanks to the installation of new sliding doors — generously funded by the Cooroy Veterans. We also thank the Social Club for donating the new seating around the course for members to enjoy a well-earned rest.

We are also pleased to share that refurbishment of the club toilets is planned in the near future. In a wonderful show of support, Matt from National Tiles Noosa has kindly donated all the tiles required for the upgrade — a very generous gesture that we greatly appreciate.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that a new Pro Shop will be opening in the coming months. Members who use their club account at the Pro Shop will receive a 10% discount on purchases — another great reason to shop local and support the club.

Strengthening Governance for the Future

We’re excited to share that the Management Committee has been working on a significant reform of our club governance. A brand-new suite of club policies has been introduced for the benefit of all members. These policies improve transparency, consistency, and decision-making processes, while ensuring the Committee can focus on strategic oversight, not day-to-day operations.

The new policies cover key areas such as:

  • Complaints handling
  • Conflict of interest management
  • Member privacy and data protection
  • ICT and digital platform use
  • Member Leave of Absence Requests

These policies have been reviewed by our legal advisor and will help protect the club from risk while promoting fairness and accountability. Please see the link below for information on and access to the new policies.

Upcoming Member Engagement

We’re also in the process of finalising a new club constitution. Once completed, we will invite all members to attend information sessions to learn about the proposed changes. These sessions will give members the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback ahead of the formal vote at the next Annual General Meeting.

Details on where to access the new policies and information session dates will be shared shortly.

Thank you once again for your continued support and enthusiasm, even in the face of difficult weather. We look forward to sunnier days and seeing more of you out on the course soon.

Yours in golf,

Mark Kelly
