Week Ending 7th October 2017

Hi reader,

2017 SPotY: With four rounds to go, and entering the home straight, the winner could be anyone in the top 20, especially if optional tee up through the green continues.  Only 11 points separate the top five places!   See Post below for latest Leaderboard.

Some good scores again on Wednesday particularly if your name is Peter.  We saw our first '3pete' in the Kevin Tonkin sponsored, Best Gross - (1)Peter Fryer 73, (2) Peter Buchbach 74, (3) Peter Kennedy 79.

Paddy Knapp fired with a nett 64 to take B Grade and Con Russell a nett 62 to take out C Grade.

Thanks to Jimmy Henderson and Brian McLoughlan for maintaining the high standard of hamburger at Marty's Hut on Wednesday.  Brian is no longer playing golf but wants to stay engaged with his many friends at the Vets.

The 2017 Vets Championship is a closed event played over 36 holes on consecutive Wednesdays starting on 18th October.  To qualify for the Championship a member must have played in at least six18 hole single events run under the auspices of Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club at Cooroy Golf Course during 2017.  Three of the six events must have been played in the Cooroy Vets weekly Wednesday competition.

Registration Closing Time

Our competitions run under the direction of a Starter who acts like a Concierge of Golf providing the gateway to an enjoyable day of golf for members and visitors.  The Starter’s role is to register players, collect fees, hand out unclaimed prizes, move players between groups if necessary, adjust tee times, smile a lot and engage in humorous banter with players, make the lucky draw AND manage an orderly start to competition for each playing group.

Typically this requires the Starter/s to be there between 6:00 am and 9:30 am, sometimes later.

Our Starters also play golf, so they need time to wrap up the registration side of things and then head out and enjoy their game of golf.

Despite previous requests we still have players turning up late.  From next week, the registration window will close 15 minutes before the last group tees off.  If you are not registered by then TOUGH LUCK you will not be admitted to the field - no late admissions.

Rod's Rant

Vehicle parking at the club can be a problem, both at the clubhouse, and at the buggy sheds adjacent to the 16th fairway.  Vehicle parking space boundaries at the buggy sheds are not defined, leaving it to individuals to make judgements about parking.  Unfortunately, some drivers are parking in a way that reduces the available parking space by leaving too much space between their vehicle and the adjacent vehicle.

If you park at the buggy sheds please be considerate, and think about the amount of space you leave between your vehicle and the adjacent vehicle.

Motorised golf carts  Players are expected to observe directional signs unless granted a medical exception.

If unsure, exercise common sense, particularly near greens and tee grounds.  Think carefully about where you drive your cart.

We want to preserve the course condition for the benefit and enjoyment of all members and visitors, particularly during the tough conditions we are currently experiencing.
