Week Ending 26th August 2017

Hi reader,

After the host club, Mt Coolum, we have the largest contingent playing in the 2017 District Vets Championship on 28th August - a great effort. The following link provides a list of players with starting time and tee.  If you have any issues or need to withdraw for any reason please contact Phil Martin (Mt Coolum Vets Captain) direct on 0412 656 426There is a large field with four grades.  Play good golf and enjoy the day.

2017 District Championship Starters List

Another good day at golf on Monday hosting Noosa and Headland with a field of 85 and four grades.   Honours were fairly evenly shared.  Brian Richards (H) took out A Grade, Andrew Dick B Grade, John Sharp (N) C Grade and Ray Glover D Grade.  Thanks to the efforts of Don Clelland we had record raffle sales and 'Wayne's Hamburgers" went down well again.

Andrew Dick continued his good form on Wednesday taking out A Grade with 41.  Competition sponsor, Ken McKay, carded a very good 45 and presented himself with the B Grade prize.  Mike Miklenda hit form leading into the District Championship taking out C Grade with 40.

After the game we celebrated the birthday (37 years and a few months) of 'junior vet', Jason Egan, by sharing a basket of delicious lamingtons and rolly-polly's supplied by Jason's partner.  Just another example of a good reason to stay for the presentation!

Michael Loe is out of golf action for a while but is staying involved by assisting with after competition activities which is very much appreciated.  The early assessment is that Michael 'shows definite potential' as a future committee member.

We welcome Visitors to play in our Vets competitions at Cooroy.  A visitor must be a financial member of a veteran golfer association or club.  The Visitor Competition Fee is now $27.00

Next Wednesday is a 4 Man Ambrose with an 8:00 am shotgun start so get your team organised.  There will be a free lunch catered by our NTP sponsor, Thai Tong Restaurant, Yandina.  The event is sponsored by "The Golf Tragics".

A reminder that we change to summer start times from 1st September with rolling starts from 6:30 am.  Shotgun starts continue at 8:00 am unless otherwise advised.

At the end of July 2017, ten months into our Financial Year, we are showing a profit of $4,247.34 in our Operating Fund and a bank account balance of $15,560.53.

We will shortly review our financial position to determine funds surplus to our operating needs that can be allocated to projects with Cooroy Golf Club.  We need to maintain a cash balance of at least $3,000 as a contingency for end of year operating costs.

In the meantime, your Vets committee has agreed 'in principle' to fund a project to replace the bridge at the 18th Tee.  Design and costing is currently under way with a view to expanding the project to include concrete paving, landscaping and enhancement of the area.  More shortly.

Message from Angry Bird Brad

Next week there will be a lesson for people who drive buggies and cannot keep on the concrete cart paths.

After volunteers spent hours shifting soil around the new paths at the 1st green it is frustrating and disappointing that this good work was partly undone by lack of common sense.

Please DRIVE ON the concrete path NOT the soil edges.
