Hi reader,

Don Pigdon's funeral will be a private affair.

There will be a free hamburger and drink stop at Marty's Hut next Wednesday and the opportunity to take a brief timeout to toast and remember Don.  We will sadly miss his genial manner, and happy outlook - a true gentleman.  Don’s achievements in life and business were many, none more so than being the first commercial grower of Carambola (star fruit) on the Sunshine Coast.  Don kept a few trees and regularly brought in a supply for members.

Don loved his golf but in recent years found it difficult to lower his handicap. Whenever he registered for a game you could be sure Don, with a wry grin, would enquire about his handicap knowing full well that it hadn’t improved.

Personally, I have two enduring memories of Don.  The first was that whenever you had a chat to Don, you always felt happier afterwards.  The second was an occasion a couple of years ago when Don won a major prize, his first for quite a long while – a very colourful golf shirt.  Immediately after the presentation, Don quietly disappeared but soon returned proudly wearing the shirt and a huge smile on his face.  There were suspicions he wore it to bed that night!

We settled the draw for our 2017 Single Matchplay Championship on Wednesday with some interesting R1 match-ups - see Post below.  None better than Peter Kennedy and Peter Buchbach who will both be playing off scratch.  Another interesting game will be between Captain and Vice Captain with Jim Henderson playing off 1 and Grant playing off scratch.  Dave Lyons has accepted the role of caddie for this game with suspicion his main motivation is to be involved in the after game celebrations.  The pressure will be on Bruce Wilshire to eliminate last year’s winner Bruce McLean; both players will play off scratch.

Despite perfect conditions for golf on Wednesday only one player bettered 40 points: Keith Harkins scored 43 to take out B Grade.  Congratulations to Peter Piggott for a Hole-in-One on the 7th on Wednesday.  Peter also picked up a bottle of wine in the Lucky Draw to help celebrate.

Congratulations also go to John O'Donoghue for taking out the somewhat prestigious Most use of the Course award for 2017.  The rules of this award mean you can only win it once in any 10 year period, although you probably don't want to be a multiple winner!

A reminder we still have plenty of places available for our host day visit to Maroochy River -MAROOCHY RIVER Nomination List.  You can access the Nomination Form from this list.

Welcome back to Andre Smit - Andre is a newly inducted member of the Prostateless Club.

Cheers

Rod

Repairing Sprig Marks on Greens

Course Director, Brad Lavender was smiling a lot early on Wednesday so thanks to all those who took the time to repair Tee divots.

Unfortunately, by the end of competition Brad had a frown on his face because of the large number of sprig marks left on greens.  If you wear shoes with sprigs (or traction soles) please exercise caution on the green and ensure you repair any marks after you putt out.

We want Brad smiling again!
