Hi reader,

Thank you for your application to join Cooroy Veterans' Golf Club.  Welcome aboard.

Being a veteran golfer is not simply or solely about golf or indeed winning.  The camaraderie and providing a friendly, supportive social environment for members is an essential part of the experience.  It is a great way to meet new friends and provides a platform for social interaction between people from all walks of life in the same age demographic irrespective of golfing ability.

I'm sure you will enjoy our competitions and events and being part of the Veteran Golfer community.

Organising and running a competition involves a lot of effort behind the scenes so if you nominate to play but are running late for your tee time or are not able to play on the nominated day we ask that you notify the following beforehand so the field can be reorganised.

A New Member Information Pack is provided below.  I’d encourage you to read through this information as it will help you familiarise yourself with The Vets and make the most of your membership.

How we operate

Veteran golf clubs are not regarded as social clubs or actual golf clubs. Rather they are formally recognised as a representative association of golfers having a common interest, in our case age, formed by a group of people to enjoy golf and other interests amongst its membership.

Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club exists for this purpose.  We manage our competitions and events independently from Cooroy Golf Club and operate under our own stand alone Constitution and accounting system with our own bank account.

Introducing the Cooroy Vets Management Committee

President: Graham Laing - Phone 54853356
Captain: Grant Smallacombe - Phone 0439171707
Vice Captain: Jim Henderson - Phone 0420928331
Secretary/Treasurer:  Rod Booth - Phone 54749452
Committee Members: Andrew Dick, David Lyons, Greg Michael, Mike Smith.

We have a formal agreement with Cooroy Golf Club Inc. setting out arrangements between the two parties.

Along with nine other clubs (Caloundra, Gympie, Headland, Maroochy River, Mt Coolum, Nambour, Pelican Waters, Noosa and Tin Can Bay) we are a member club of the Sunshine Coast District Veteran Golfers Associationthe largest Veteran Golfer District in Australia with over 1,800 members.

We have a say in District affairs through representation on the District Management Committee.

Competitions and Events

Our Weekly Competition is held at Cooroy on Wednesday morning with both single and team game formats to provide variety.  We also play a Monthly Medal competition, typically on the first Wednesday of each month.

Our Wednesday Competition Fee is $12.00 which includes a Lucky Draw. You enter your name on the Lucky Draw sheet after registering with our starter.

Unclaimed prizes or balls due to you will be available from the Starter when you register for your next game.

Tee Times are from 6:30 am in summer (September to April) and from 7:00 am in winter (May to August).  Players are encouraged to register 30 minutes prior to hitting off.

We frequently hold Shot Gun Starts to allow players to arrive back in the clubhouse around the same time for presentations and socialising.  Members are encouraged to stay for these presentations as it is a great opportunity to get to know other members and have some fun.

Through our membership of the Sunshine Coast District Veteran Golfers Association, you will have the opportunity to play some of the best golf courses on the Sunshine Coast at reasonable cost under the District Host Day Program

The Nomination facility for competitions and events is usually available well in advance of the competition.

You can find details of our competition and events program in the Event Calendar on the website - click this link http://cooroygolf.com.au/event-calendar/

If you have any questions concerning our Wednesday competition or Host Days please feel free to speak to Grant Smallacombe or Jim Henderson or any committee member.

We have two sponsorship programs.   The first involves external sponsors.  You will become aware of these external sponsors from our competition presentations.  We encourage members to support businesses that support us.

The second is our Member Prize Donor Program  under which Members sponsor competitions individually or get together with other members to sponsor a competition or competitions. The donation can be in cash or 'in kind', for example, golf balls.

Both of these programs are important as they allow us to maintain attractive prize levels and provide additional benefits to members in the form of a Xmas Lunch, regular Sausage Sizzles, Marty’s Hut Hamburger and Drink Days, and a midyear Lunch which are seen as an excellent way of ensuring benefits are spread across all members.  All of these additional benefits are free to members.

If you are interested in being part of the Member Prize Donor Program speak to Rod or Grant or any committee member.

We keep members up to date with results, information and a light-hearted view of what's happening through regular email communications.  Some excerpts are included below to give you a feel for what is happening at Cooroy Vets - click on Read more.

Information is also posted on the Vets Noticeboard located on the wall near the Starters Room and under Golf News on the website.

As it provides useful information about Cooroy Veteran Golfers, interesting articles, competition results, photos, and course updates I would also encourage you to have a look at the Cooroy Golf Club website at http://cooroygolf.com.au/

Golf Shirts

Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club golf shirts can be ordered through our Secretary, Rod Booth.  The cost is $40.00 and needs to be paid before the order is placed.
