Week Ending 8th October 2016

Hi reader,

Weekly Wrap

Nick Kostalas had a good day at Caloundra last Friday scoring 35 points and taking out 3rd place in C Grade from Ray Glover on a count-back.   Caloundra is an 'interesting', well established, course with very slick greens and lots of bunkers.

Congratulations to Phil Mason for a Hole-in-One on the 6th Hole on Wednesday.  Phil's ball will be mounted and suitably engraved plus he will receive a prize to the value of $50.00 which will be presented at our 2016 Xmas lunch.  Phil can celebrate with the bottle of wine he won in Wednesdays lucky draw.

Congratulations also to Kevin Tonkin (aka Nivek Niknot) for an 'eagle' on the 8thKevin had a very good day winning the A Grade monthly medal and taking out his own sponsored contest with the 'best gross' score.

The compulsory stop at Marty's Hut for a free hamburger and drink once again proved very popular thanks to the efforts of Jimmy and Grant.  It hardly seems necessary to make it compulsory!  Thanks to our NTP sponsors for supplying the produce for great hamburgers:  Noosa Outlook Specialty Meats, Cooroy Harvest Fresh and Richies Bakery.  Thanks also go to Cooroy Golf Club for supplying the drinks.

Secretary/Treasurer involved in cart incident - I hit my drive off the 18th tee into the trees on the right.  After an unsuccessful search I was about to take a penalty when my ball was found in the grass bunker on the 17th.  Not wishing to delay the following group I raced over in my cart, jumped out, selected a club and went to play the ball.   Unfortunately in my haste I forget to apply the cart brake which morphed into an unmanned drone and proceeded to dip its’ front wheels into the creek.  Playing partners Bob Atkin and Jim Turnbull quickly arrived to assist but things didn’t initially go well.   As they pulled I attempted to reverse out but the cart was in forward gear nearly taking all of us into the creek.  This was quickly corrected but as the cart powered out it ran over Jim and Bob.

I’m pleased to report that the cart is relatively unscathed and that both Jim and Bob are only lightly scarred.  The lesson for the day – always apply the golf cart brake when you stop.  Anything for a good story!

VETS: A Golf Life Lesson

A golf life lesson from one of our members. I was playing the 14th last week and hit my second shot over the hill in line with the trees on the left.  I came over the hill and saw my ball further to the right than I had expected. I checked and double checked the ball and confirmed that it …
