Jason Mistry has joined us and played his 1st Vets' game on Wednesday.

Indications are that Jason will make up part of Jimmy’s team when the International All Stars take on the Aussies in September.

WEDNESDAY

Great to see our proud Member Sponsor’s The Top Enders, Andrew Dick, Jack Timm and Mike Smith flying the Northern Territory flag.

Eighty-nine players teed off in perfect conditions. Our winners in the Modified Ambrose Scramble would have been at short odds to win, and they didn’t
surprise. They played very good golf to finish with 7 birdies and 2 bogeys
amongst their gross score of 65.

Winners: Mark Kelly, David Attrill, Aileen Morton, Garry Stephens, 54.12.
2nd Place: Peter Palmer, Terry Lyons, Jim Searle, Peter Rae, 56.
3rd Place: Tony Foster, Sandra Clemow, Brian Clemow, Doug Pearce, 56.12.

What's Coming Up

On Monday, June 16th, we travel to Nambour. The nominations for this
event are closed, but anyone wanting to withdraw or add their name should contact Grant on 0439171707 or grantsmallacombe@gmail.com.

On Monday, 23rd June, we travel to Maroochy River. Maroochy River normally restrict us to 40 nominations, but for some reason has invited another club, and we are restricted to just 20. I have vented my disappointment with them, and they will look at accepting reserves if there is room. I am very doubtful that this will occur, meaning that only the first 10 pairs are guaranteed a game. I will contact the remaining 12 players and let you know what is going on.

On Monday, 30th June, we host Gympie, Nambour, and Tin Can Bay. Online nominations for this event are now open. 12 of our players have nominated so far.

On Friday, 11th July, we travel to Gympie. Details are on display near the Vets' pinup board. There is no limit on numbers. It is a 9.00 am shotgun start. The cost is $15 for walkers and $34 if sharing a cart. There is no need to book a cart as they will be pre-booked when we send the form back on the 2nd July.

SCDVGA Team Challenge at Tin Can Bay

This annual event will be held on Thursday, 3rd July, and is an 8.30 am shotgun start.

Each club in the District is limited to 8 players and 2 reserves. The best 6 out of the 8 aggregate Stableford scores determine the winners. The reserves still get to play in a separate Stableford competition.

This has been a very popular event over the years, and at this stage we have 8 nominations and still require the 2 reserves. The cost of the game is $40 and includes lunch, competition fees and prizes. NOTE: Carts must be booked through Tin Can Bay Pro Shop 0409 727 577.

The $40 fee must be paid either by cash to the Vets' starters or by direct credit to our account BSB 633 000, a/c 210 827 838. Use your name as a reference.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS WANTED

I was recently approached by some members enquiring about the out-of-bounds rule that is aligned with the R&A's 2019 Rules of Golf. It is designed to improve the pace of play by allowing players to drop near the likely location of the lost or out-of-bounds ball instead of returning to the previous shot location.

This drop, taken with a two-stroke penalty, applies to all shots, not just tee shots. It should be stressed that someone in your group needs to virtually know or be almost certain that they have either seen it go out of bounds, or the last time anyone saw it, it was heading out of bounds.

The choice to adopt this rule was left up to the individual Golf Clubs. Although a lot of clubs adopted this rule, Cooroy Golf Club decided not to adopt it. This does not mean that we can not adopt the rule in Vet’s Competitions.

I have always been in favour of this rule, and the feedback from the rest of the Vet’s Committee is that we should be doing all we can to improve the
pace of play.

Just so you are clear on this, I give an example. You hit your tee shot on the 10th
and think it is still in play, but when you get there, you find that it has just
rolled under the fence. Your only option at the moment is to go back to the tee
and play your 3rd shot (this holds up play).

Under the proposed Vets rule, you would be able to drop your ball within 2 club lengths, not nearer the hole from where it crossed out of bounds. But you would then be playing your 4th shot. You can, of course, still opt to play a provisional off the tee if you think your ball may have gone out of bounds. My reasoning to adopt this rule in the Vets is that I don’t see too many players deliberately hitting their ball out of bounds, so they can not only be penalised 2 shots but most likely lose their golf ball as well.

Appreciate and looking forward to your comments.
