WEDNESDAY

It was great to see the weather doing the right thing and a field of 97 turning up to play in our popular ANZAC Day 4-Person Ambrose Competition.

We are very grateful for the sponsorship we receive for this event from the Cooroy Pomona RSL Sub-Branch and our ex-servicemen, Tony Kershaw, John Cairns, Greg Flanagan, Derek Wood, Cam Darby, Tony Bernhagen, Rudy Agerbeek, and Dale Boys.

Also, we greatly appreciate Tony Kershaw's effort on the day and securing these sponsorships.

Once again, a mighty effort by Warren, his staff and our volunteers for presenting the course in great condition after the extended wet period.

Cart users can assist staff by following signs and keeping out of no-go areas.

As is normal with most Ambrose competitions, the results are always very close, with only 0.38 separating the top 3 scores.

WHAT'S COMING UP - WEDNESDAY

We play our May Monthly Medal competition Next Wednesday, the 30th of APRIL. The 'Bush Boys' will sponsor the event in conjunction with 'HansyJim' (Hans Herrle and Jim Bisset).

The following week, 7th of May, we play a Single Stableford sponsored by our latest member sponsor, 'The Cranleys' (John & Bev Cranley). For something different, we will have the 3 men's grades playing off different tees:
A-Grade players will play off the Blue tees.
B-Grade players will play off the White tees.
C-Grade players will play off the Red tees.
Ladies will play off the Red tees as the club has no ratings for ladies off these other colours.

Our next Marty's Hut free hot dog and drink event is planned for Wednesday, 4th of June. Yes, you read correctly, we are trying something different and will cook up a delicious hot dog instead of the usual hamburger or sausage.

HOST DAY AND DISTRICT NEWS

This Monday, the 28th of APRIL, 12 Cooroy players will take part in the SCDVGA Championships at Headland with a full field of 120. We wish our players the best of luck - play good golf and enjoy.

Our next Host Day is an away game at Mt Coolum on Monday, the 26th of May. We should receive the nomination form from them soon, and when we do, it will be on display near the vets' pin-up board.

We have been busy rescheduling the cancelled Host Days. It takes time to find alternative dates that suit all parties, as most clubs made prior commitments when the program was done late last year. We have a busy month of June coming up. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain too much in June.

Monday, 9th June: Hosting Caloundra and Noosa.
Monday, 16th June: Away game at Nambour.
Monday, 23rd June: Away game at Maroochy River.
Monday, 30th June: Hosting Gympie, Nambour, and Tin Can Bay.

NEW CLUB ENTRY DOORS

While out playing on Wednesday, two new entry doors to the clubhouse were fitted. You may have noticed how easy they glide compared to the old ones. The grey-tinted glass is a vast improvement.

The supply and fit of these doors was made possible through a $5,000 donation to the Cooroy Golf Club, recently approved by the Vets Management Committee under the following guidelines.

Funding Initiatives by Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club
18. From time to time, Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club may, in accordance with its Constitution, fund initiatives aimed at improving the golf course or facilities or providing equipment (from here on called a Funding Proposal) for the benefit of all Cooroy Golf Club Inc. members.

Building up sufficient funds for the Vets to do something worthwhile takes time. In my time on the Vets Committee, and thanks to Rod Booth’s meticulous record keeping, previous funding includes:

2012: New website for the CGC - $1,950.
2013: Drainage and patch work to areas of 9th, 17th, and 4th holes - $4,538.
2014: 9th hole cart path and 10th hole tee terracing - $6,253.
2015: Concrete cart assembly area - $10,000.
2017: 18th Tee project - $11,658.
2021: 2nd-hand Toro Workman Utility - $13,990.
2022: Contribution to purchase Greens Mower - $15,000.

Other funding by the Vets includes:
Purchase of Battery-Powered Pole Saw - $1,237,
Hole in One Honour Board - $395,
Hire Cart Extension Project - $368,
Printing of 40,000 Score Cards - $1,229.

These projects would not be possible without the generous support we receive from our members and external sponsors.

In the 10 years to 30th September 2024 (end of our financial year), we received cash sponsorship totalling $60,135, with members contributing $43,780, and external sponsors $16,355. These figures do not include 'non-cash in kind' sponsorship, such as golf balls, NTP Vouchers, and sponsor products.

Sponsorships also allow us to offer attractive competition prizes and provide events such as Marty's Hut free food and drink days for the enjoyment of all Vets members.

We are proud to have so many members who have supported us over the years and our loyal external sponsors.
