Hello Members,

I hope you’ve all enjoyed a well-deserved break over Christmas and the New Year and have had a positive start to the year! It’s been a busy start to the year for our team, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates and initiatives that reflect the progress we’re making as a club.

1. New Membership Drive: Building Our Club Community

We’ve launched a new membership drive to strengthen our club’s community, and it’s off to a fantastic start! Thanks to your support, we’ve already welcomed more than 20 new members since the drive started! As a special thank-you, we’re offering a $100 club account credit for every new member you refer – so let’s keep the momentum going!

A huge thank you to our Club Manager, Wayne, for his incredible efforts in leading this initiative and engaging prospective members.

To expand on our vision of making golf accessible to everyone, we’re also developing exciting junior membership packages to encourage the next generation of golfers and a corporate membership option to attract local business sponsorships. These steps will ensure we remain a vibrant and inclusive club for years to come.

2. Golf Course Upgrades: Investing in Excellence

We’re committed to improving your experience on the course, and several upgrades are already underway:
  • Water Security: To maintain our beautiful course, we’re drilling and capping a bore to ensure reliable water storage. Warren, our Course Superintendent, is also working with the Shire’s water resources team to enhance capacity near the 4th tee.
  • New Equipment: We’re investing in a scarifier, which will help improve fairways, introduce cooch grass, and keep us on track with regular maintenance without relying on contractors.
  • Practice Facilities: Upgrades are starting soon on the practice nets (new mats and netting), with exciting plans to enhance the chipping area and practice zone.
  • Clubhouse Enhancements: Thanks to the Cooroy VETs group, new sliding entrance doors are being installed. Also, we will be adding a fresh coat of paint and updated signage to the club house, and finally, the house Director Mark is close to finalising plans to improve the men’s toilet facilities.
We’re confident these upgrades will improve your golfing experience and create an environment we can all be proud of!

3. Staff Development: Empowering Our Team

Our team is the backbone of the club, and we’re investing in their growth with a staff development program. Greens staff member Tom Murphy will soon begin a Certificate III in Turf Management, guided and mentored by Warren.

Supporting our staff not only enhances their skills but also strengthens their connection to the club and its future. We’re committed to creating an environment where our team can thrive, innovate, and contribute to our shared success.

4. Modernising IT and Communication

We’ve taken a big step forward by successfully applying for a grant from Microsoft, which provides Microsoft 365 Business Premium to non-profits at no cost. This incredible benefit, valued at $6,000 per year, allows our staff and committee to stay connected with shared calendars, secure online meetings, and seamless online and secure document management that also removes the cost to print committee documents.

We’re also focusing on enhancing our website to better protect member information and improve functionality. Currently, the lack of a members-only section means private club news and notices – including members’ names at times – are accessible to anyone in the world. This creates potential risks, such as information scraping, which can compromise privacy and security.

To address these risks, we’re working with a WordPress specialist and will seek proposals for a new website design. The new website will look to include:
  • A members-only section for club news, notices and information.
  • Online booking capabilities to make it easier for social players to book and pay for tee times.
  • A modern, secure, and member-friendly design aligned with best practices.
These changes will protect our members’ privacy, ensure a more positive user experience, and bring our website in line with the professional image we aim to maintain.

5. Strengthening Governance and Club Values

Good governance is the backbone of any successful club. It ensures consistency, fairness, and transparency in decision-making and fosters trust between members, staff, and the committee. To that end, we’re introducing a raft of new and important policies and measures, including:
  • A conflict of interest policy to maintain integrity among staff and committee members. This ensures that any personal interests are disclosed and do not influence club decisions.
  • A complaint management process to address member concerns efficiently and fairly. This interim process whilst waiting for a new Constitution, will help us resolve issues in a way that aligns with our Vision, Mission, and Values while ensuring transparency and accountability.
Why is this so important? Without these policies, the club risks inconsistencies in how issues are handled, which can lead to misunderstandings, frustration, and a lack of trust. Clear governance frameworks provide a roadmap for how we operate, ensuring that all decisions are made in the best interests of the club and its members.

We also recognise the need to empower and support our staff, who are critical to our success. By clarifying roles and responsibilities through new policies, we can enable them to confidently perform their duties while maintaining a positive work environment.

We’ve included a draft of the complaint management process as a link and encourage your feedback to ensure it meets the needs of our members.

Looking Ahead

There’s always room to grow, and we’re working hard to make transformative changes that benefit everyone. While the management committee continues to adapt to its leadership role, we are determined to build a strong foundation for the club’s future – with your support as our driving force.

Thank you for your patience, enthusiasm, and commitment to our shared vision. Together, we’re creating a club that’s not just about golf but about community, camaraderie, and progress.

Let’s make 2025 a fantastic year for our club!

Yours in golf,
