VETS 2024 AGM
A reminder that the Vets AGM will be held on Wednesday, 6th November 2024 after we wrap up the competition - approximately 12:30 pm.
Nominations for the Vets' committee are closed. So far, the only nomination is Bruce Otto for President. There are no others. It will be possible to nominate from the floor at the AGM, so now is a good time for others to think about making a contribution and joining the committee.

The Agenda includes a Special Motion to amend the Vets Constitution to admit females as Ordinary Members.
As this Motion seeks to amend the rules of the Cooroy Veterans’ Golf Club Constitution it requires a special resolution. A special resolution succeeds if agreed to by at least 75% of the members who are eligible to vote at the general meeting. A special resolution cannot be amended at the meeting.
The Vets Committee recommends this motion be adopted for several reasons:
- To fall in line with Golf Australia, the Queensland Veterans Golf Union, and Sunshine Coast District Veterans Golf Association’s guidelines. We are the only Veterans Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast that does not allow female members to enjoy the benefits of being a full member. This has become an embarrassing situation for us. Other clubs on the Sunshine Coast have reported only positive outcomes when they have made similar changes over the last few years.
- The inclusion of female members in our HOST DAY games this year has been accepted very well and has added some much-needed enthusiasm.
- At present, we are not flush with members wanting to take on committee positions. The inclusion of women may add to a larger base of potential candidates.
- Creates a friendlier atmosphere for visiting Veteran golfers and their partners.
- Will help grow Cooroy Golf Club membership numbers.

To answer a question that may be asked; 'Why can't men play on Thursday?'
The Sexual Discrimination Act does allow 'special measures' where an exemption does apply. Only 20% of golfers in Australia are women. As women are largely underrepresented at golf clubs, these measures can be made by the club to promote equity for under-represented groups. Competition access is key here, i.e., while women may have a competition on this day, men will still have access to the course outside of these times for women.
