SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING - 22nd AUGUST 2024
Recently the Management Committee decided to expel three members of the club for behaviour that was in the opinion of the Management Committee, conduct derogatory to the character of a gentleman or lady or prejudicial to the interests of The Club.
This was a decision that was not taken lightly but was considered necessary regarding the seriousness of the complaints against them.
All three were given an opportunity to meet with the Committee to discuss these complaints and all three declined to do so.
One of these members Patrick Carroll has since called for a Special General Meeting as he did not accept the Committee’s decision.
This meeting will be held at the Cooroy Golf Club on Thursday, the 22nd of August 2024 at 5.30 pm.
Full details of the complaints will be provided to members when we send out the meeting agenda.

MANAGER KEEPS BUSY & SECURES SEVERAL SPONSORSHIPS
Wayne has been busy securing a range of Sponsorships for the club. These sponsorships include the Member’s Brick Sponsorship located on the hire cart shed near the 1st tee. A great response from our members, and we now have 100 brick sponsors.
New business Sponsorships include:
- Practice Green: OPTUS Business Centre.
- Tee Sponsors: Noosa Meat Centre, Noosa Mechanical, Waddi Springs Water, JSW Group, Auto Correct Repair, EZGO Golf Carts, Cooroy Pomona RSL Sub Branch
- Flag Poles and Flags: RDO Equipment Pty Ltd (John Deere Machinery Dealer)
- Digital Honour Board: Bendigo Bank
- Men’s and Ladies Golf: Australian Liquor Marketers (Qld) Pty Ltd, Wright Cut Meats Cooroy, Jamaica Blue Cooroy, Coffee Club Noosa
If you or anyone you know may be interested in becoming a sponsor, speak to Wayne and he will follow it up.
PRO SHOP
Wayne is in the process of setting up a small pro shop in the northeast corner of the clubhouse. The shop will provide extra income from visitors and give members another avenue to spend the money they have on their House Accounts. The new shop will sell items that turn over frequently like golf balls, gloves, tees, shirts, and hats.
RECOVERED USED GOLF BALLS
From time to time, you may see Wayne don his wet suit and jump into our icy waters to recover some of your lost treasures. His latest efforts secured over 1,000 golf balls. Sorting and cleaning is done by Andrew Carson.
Sales last month alone produced an income of $1,000 for the Club.
DIGITAL HONOUR BOARD
The club is moving with the times and will gradually replace the old honour boards.
There is limited space available for these existing boards and thanks to a $2,000 Sponsorship arrangement with Bendigo Bank we will be able to purchase a digital system.
The new system will scroll on a TV monitor and can be updated every year for around $260 which is much more economical than our existing arrangement.
MYALL STREET SIGNAGE
You will soon notice some new signage behind the 16th Tee. Cooroy Golf Club will make the most of this location to promote itself.
The current sponsorship for this sign expires soon, so this is an ideal location for the golf club to make the most of the huge traffic flow on Myall Street.
DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE VALUE OF OUR VOLUNTEERS
Recent works by our volunteers include:
- Sandstone tee signs and sponsor signs cleaned, sealed, and painted along with distance markers on the tees and fairways, sand storage bins, various seats, and railings.
- Upgrade to tee signs on red tees to provide space for additional sponsor recognition.
- Gurney pavers and repairs around the Clubhouse including entrance from the car park to the cart parking area. Repair damage caused by the garbage collector to the front of the clubhouse.
- Establish Kelvin Brittain Memorial Garden around the 2nd tee area.
- Install wire netting protection against stray golf balls over the new solar panels on the workshop roof.
- Marty’s Hut clean-out, refurbishment, and repaint.
- Strengthen and stabilise the walk bridge from the 12th green to the 13th tee area.
- The ongoing course maintenance work done by Jim Henderson and Doug Pearce every Tuesday together with Ron Blount on the bins and ball washers and Don Clelland on the blower vac.
- Ongoing work by Tony Foster maintaining the fleet of machinery and equipment.
- Gary Menyweather and Nev Kunst on the mowers every Tuesday, weather permitting.
-
All of the ongoing work done by the ladies' group in maintaining the gardens throughout the course.
An extraordinary effort by all concerned.
We need to keep in mind that most of our volunteers are in their senior years, and we would like to encourage any younger members to put their hands up. If interested speak to Graham Laing, Volunteer Coordinator, or Greens Director, Andrew Dick.

TITLES and LEASED LAND
Looking at future planning, vice-president, Mark Woolway is doing some research on just what we can and can’t do on the land that the Club owns and leases. Many members may not be aware of just what we own and what we lease. For your information.
- PROPERTY ID 128669 (1010.56 sq. metre). The Club owns the site where the clubhouse is located. In 1957 the club purchased a single-room building from Nambour High School for the sum of £175, (see photo below) – it became the new clubhouse and still is today.
- LOT 33 - MCH2281 (17.2 ha) is Crown Land and is leased by the Club. The last term of the lease was for 20 years and runs till 2037. This portion of land includes the practice putting green, the club cart shed, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 16th, 17th, & 18th holes. It also contains the Greenkeepers compound and members' cart sheds.
- LOT 1 - SP115864 (12.6 ha) is owned by the Club and is made up of part of the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, and 7th holes.
- LOT 1 - RP78962 (1.19 ha) is a triangular lot owned by the Club and is the 6th hole, the 3rd tee, and the 16th tee up to the cart sheds.
- LOT 1 RP86447 (0.10 ha) is a small rectangular section owned by the Club and is located in the vicinity of the 7th and 16th tees.

OPTUS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
The Management Committee recently approved the replacement of our current Telstra system with an Optus Loop with Ring Central Communication System at a cost of $257.10 per month including fibre to the premises.
The Optus System uses the latest VoIP technology (voice over internet) and is being purchased from the locally owned Optus Business Centre in Maroochydore.
REPRICING of GOLF GAMES
Around this time each year, the Club looks at the pricing structure for playing golf both as a member and as a social player.
It is no small task that requires a lot of time and research. After several meetings between the Manager, President, Finance, and the Back Office we have come up with prices that we think will hold us in good stead for the future.
Increases have been necessary to keep up with the rise in wages, plus goods and services.
ADVERTISING SIGNS
Wayne has found a new business to supply our club signage. Signosaur offers an online service and is based in Brisbane. Their pricing is very competitive, and their art templates are very user-friendly.
