Wednesday, 17th July is the first of two rounds of “THE OLD COURSE CHALLENGE”. This year will be in the memory of the recently deceased Lionel Willett and the late Ed Otto. These two were the foundation members who established the Cooroy Vets in 1985.

The game is played over 2 rounds in conjunction with an 18-hole Single Stableford Event off the “WHITE TEES”. The MSL system will also calculate your score for the “OLD 9 HOLE COURSE”. There are separate prizes for each round and a perpetual framed trophy for the aggregate winner.

HOST DAYS

Over the past 12 months, there has been a decline in the number of golfers playing and enjoying this district programme. We as Veteran Golfers have a great opportunity to be able to play, not only our course but several other great courses on the Sunshine Coast for what I would say is a VERY GOOD RATE. Yes, this year has seen some clubs increase their fees but usually only by up to $5.00.

There are murmurs in the District that changes may need to be made to continue this programme. One club has already limited visitors to a very small number which is disappointing, to say the least.

I will endeavour to have the 2025 Host Day List of Names and Dates as soon as they have been finalised, put in a newsletter and available in the Event Calendar on the club website. Below are the remaining 2024 dates.

Please, if you can play a few extra rounds a year it is a fantastic way of meeting new people and enjoying great friendships and camaraderie.

List of 2024 Dates Remaining 9th August – Visit to Caloundra G.C.

26th August – C.G.C. Visit by Tin Can Bay V.G.C.

30th September – C.G.C. Visit by Headland V.G.C.

14th October – C.G.C. Visit by Noosa V.G.C.

21st October – C.G.C. Visit by Maroochy River V.G.C.

11th November – Visit to Peregian G.C.

13th November – Visit to Noosa G.C.

I’m hoping that our club will not be seen to have declining participant numbers. So, if you would like our club to continue to be one of the leading clubs that are made welcome and always have the numbers to make Host Days a success, either being Visited or Visiting lets bring our numbers back to where they should be.

Kind Regards

Bruce Otto - President Cooroy Veterans' Golf Club
