It is with regret that I resign as President of Cooroy Golf Club. There are two main reasons for my decision, the first and main reason is personal. We have a family crisis which demands my immediate attention and Sue has had to carry the bulk of the load, my family is my top priority.
The second reason is the unrest in the golf club. The constant harassment and abuse by certain members are making management of the club impossible. I like to get things done and the current situation is preventing any advances or improvements from taking place, wasting my time and energy on rubbish. This has cost the club two of our hard-working female committee members, Chris, and Tina, due to degrading misogynistic remarks made by these same members.
For the last 13 years, I have been volunteering at the club. Most of the work around the clubhouse I have had a hand in and have been involved in some way with most of the projects on the golf course. I do this not for recognition but to make a contribution to what I consider a cause worthy of my time and effort for the benefit of myself and my fellow members.
I would ask you all to value your committee, they are unpaid volunteers. All are there to do their best for the club and much of what they do goes unseen by most members. The club is in the best financial position possible due to the hard work and expertise of Rod Booth, also most members don’t realise the persistence and many hours put in by Andrew Dick which has resulted in over $180,000.00 in grants achieved for our benefit. Grant Smallacombe, as well as putting effort and labour into many projects over many years, has made financial donations totalling thousands of dollars to our golf club without seeking acknowledgement or gratification.

As for our loyal band of volunteers, your unselfish dedication to the club is appreciated. Don’t become disheartened by comments that you are not needed. Most members value your efforts, and the club would not survive without your input.
