Week ended 10th October 2020

Hi reader,
Rex Williams is recovering well from heart surgery. We wish Rex a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the course and in the machinery shed very soon.

WEDNESDAY

Thanks to the Red October Team (Terry Magill, Greg Michael, Terry Lyons, Paul O'Hare) for sponsorship. Unfortunately, Paul couldn't be with us as he remains 'marooned' on a yacht somewhere off the coast of NSW.

Playing off the men’s red tees didn’t phase players with some great scores returned, particularly in a hotly contested B Grade.

Terry Lyons shot his best ever score of 76 and 43 points (after wiping the 1st hole!) to take B Grade from Ron Blount and Dale Rickard.

Gary Menyweather had a great day taking two NTP's and A Grade with 38. Jeff McDonald continued his good form to take runner up from Mike Kent.

Wayne McKinnon made a welcome return to the podium with 41 to take C Grade from Michael Hill and Bob Atkin.

LUCKY DRAW
Please note that effective from next week (14th October 2020) we are reverting to the pre-COVID practice where Lucky Draw prizes not collected on the day are forfeited. So, make sure you check the winners sheet when you return to the clubhouse at completion of your round. The Lucky Draw will continue at 6 bottles of wine. Lucky Draw numbers are pre-assigned by time slot on the nomination sheet.

HOST/INVITATION DAYS

A big thank you to all the players for making the Vets' invite event on Tuesday a great success, with a total of 47 turning up. Lots of fun and laughter was heard all over the golf course. Thank you to all the ladies for providing a scrumptious morning tea and special thanks to Grant Smallacombe for donating the prizes.

The team of Mary Miller, Sandra Viney, Andrew Aves and Andy Stewart claimed the main prize.

Looking at 14 holes next year!

We host Maroochy River on 19th October. Nominations are closed.
  • It is a rolling start. We will post tees times in advance of the event.
  • Coffee, sponsored by Cooroy Vets, will be available from the bar.
  • There will be no NTP's.
  • There will be an extended rundown.
  • Wayne’s special sandwiches will be on sale.

COVID-SAFE PRACTICES

There was some uncertainty today about COVID-19 restrictions. Here is a reminder of the practices applying to all competition and social golf played at Cooroy Golf Club. Please note in particular the practice for marking score cards.

Course.
  1. Players are to mark their own card. Only the player's signature is required, however your correct score must also appear as Player 2 on another player's card.
  2. Pool noodles are in place on each flagstick to make it easier to remove the ball from the hole.
  3. Players may remove the flagstick when putting, however CGC recommends that this not be done. Players should not expect another player to remove the flagstick for them.
  4. Rakes are available in the bunkers but CGC recommends they not be used. There is a one-card-length preferred lie in all bunkers.
  5. Ball-washers are not in use.
  6. Sand buckets are not in use. Members are encouraged to bring their own.
  7. Handshaking at the end of a round is discouraged.
Clubhouse
  1. The clubhouse is limited to 50 patrons (including the deck area).
  2. All clubhouse patrons must sign-in at the register when entering the clubhouse (not necessary if just paying green fees or competition fees).
  3. A minimum of 1.5m social distancing is required between groups.
  4. Patrons are now allowed to stand while eating and drinking, however please do not stand and drink at the bar. The bar is reserved for serving only.
