HOST DAYS
|
A field of about 135, less than a third of those from Cooroy, teed off at 8:30 hopeful the weather would hold off, but it was not to be. Two hours on the heavens opened big time reducing the competition to the first nine holes played by each player.
|
Accordingly NTP’s were null and void, and six cards were randomly selected to share the balls. Cooroy did well here with John Cairns, Peter Jeucken and Mike Smith collecting 3 balls each.
|
In the run down, Cooroy again did well collecting half of the balls in the rundown. One ball each to Ian Lumsden, John Kelly, Con Russell, Bob Atkin, Derek Wood, Dave Lyons, Graham Laing, Andrew Dick, Mike Smith, Greg Michael and Mark Woolway.
|
Congratulations to Jason Egan who won B grade - he has a voucher to take back to the Pro Shop. Unfortunately he was a lonely winner as Mt Coolum cleaned up the rest of the major prizes over four grades.
|
There were a few “if only” experiences with Brian Clemow coming in wet and miserable, and deciding to head off home. Had he handed in his card of 19 points he would have been either the winner or runner up in his respective grade. It was hard to get both Presidents off the golf course, with the Mt Coolum President winning C grade with 20 points, while our Graham Laing was four better than two’s for his first five holes on the back nine; he parred four holes in a row during the heaviest of the rain.

We have a busy March coming up as well, with sheets out for our visits to Tin Can Bay and Headland, while Woodford visit us mid-month.

HIGHLIGHTS of WEDNESDAY
The possibility of rain, which didn't eventuate, put some early starters off but still a good field of 72 on another very hot and steamy day. The course is in great shape as you can see from the pictures, although with not a lot of run.
|
Thanks to our prize donors for the day, 'The Shankers', aka Terry McCulloch and Grant Smallacombe. Grant was pleased to report he didn't shank any shots but did hit quite a few off the toe of the club - is a name change in the wind? And Terry made a few people nervous wearing a Corona cap.
|
John Wuersching continued his good form taking out A Grade with 38 Geoff Linde 37 and Peter Kennedy 35.
|
John Butler returned to the podium to win B Grade with 36 from Derek Wood taking runner up with 34 on countback from Dave Lyons.
|
Mike Smith seemed surprised to win C Grade with 34 on countback from Ian Mulhall and Tony Foster.
|
|
Visitor, Bart Hamers, off a handicap of 1 and playing the course for only the second time, shot an impressive 73 off the stick - encouragement to come back again!
