HOSTING PELICAN WATERS 4th February 2019

2019 02 04 - Pelican Waters
Our first home hosting day for 2019 saw a field of 76 enjoy a course in very good playing condition. A great effort by Mike (Superman) Kent to take A Grade with Andy Stewart taking 3rd place. Pretty much every thing else went to PW although we did collect most of the raffle prizes.

Host Days are a great way to showcase our course.

Not only did Pelican Waters take out all the NTP's their Don Gregory scored a hole-in-one on the 10th. Don will have his ball mounted on a suitably engraved stand and receive a $50.00 voucher redeemable at the Pelican Waters pro-shop. The cost is carried by the Sunshine Coast District Veteran Golfers Association.

Next Monday, 11th February 2019 we host Gympie for an 8:00am shotgun start.

The following Monday, 18th February 2019, we host Mt Coolum. Mt Coolum look like they will send around 80 players. We are aiming to break our field size record. Mt Coolum don't play a weekly Vets competition so they are keen participants in the District host day program.

WEDNESDAY 6th February 2019

The uncertain weather saw quite a few late withdrawals but we still sent out a good field of 75. A big thanks to those withdrawals who called to let us know allowing the starter to reorganise the field.

Before heading out to play Kerry Martin lamented he hadn’t won anything in five years. Wednesday saw a change of fortune. Between light showers, heavy rain and sunshine Kerry and Phil Mason put together a very good 57.5 to take out the American Foursome from Tony Hayes and Derek Wood 60.5 and John McNamara and Jim Gregg with 61.5.

President Graham and Captain Grant returned to the clubhouse a little disappointed that Ken McKay and Peter Piggott hadn’t offered at least some praise for their birdie blitz. A closer examination of the 'Gx2 ' scorecard revealed why. It was not so much a birdie blitz as a birdie light drizzle, a bit like the weather.

Don Clelland collected the single Stableford prize. Footnote - Don was the only entrant.

Dave Chapman and Graham Laing will sponsor on 20th February as The DG’s.

News FROM THE SHED – January 2019

It is the middle of the growing season and in spite of a mini-drought, there is still a lot of grass growth on the course, particularly the more undesirable “grasses”. Public holidays, staff holidays and expenditure restrictions in place, have affected our getting out there mowing the rough as much as hoped. However, we did get good feedback from our …
