Week ending 17th August 2019

Hi reader,

Vice Captain, Jimmy Henderson and Secretary/Treasurer, Rod Booth, both returned on Wednesday after successful surgery and stints in hospital only to find our Captain, Grant had been admitted to hospital. Grant is now back at home and has asked that we pass on the following information.

An angiogram on Wednesday morning revealed Grant needed one of his heart valves replaced which will happen next Tuesday in a 5 hour operation. Unfortunately after the operation Grant won’t be able to play golf for three months nor will he be able to drive for six weeks. That’s all of the bad news.

The good news is that this was picked up now as without the operation the condition could prove fatal within 6 months. The advice from the surgeon is that after the healing process, Grant will feel 20 years younger, so look out on the golf course then.

Although he can't play Grant is hoping to be back running things within 2 or 3 weeks with help from the other two invalids and the rest of the committee. This is great but, it probably means Grant has lots of time to think up even more entertaining challenges for our golf competitions.

It seems being on the Vets Committee eventually catches up with you - the Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-Captain and now the Captain - who's next?

Ron Blount picked up 3rd place in C Grade in the host day visit to Caloundra collecting one dozen Srixon Soft Feel Golf Balls. Don Clelland, Rex Williams, Dave Chapman, Rod Roemermann and Greg Michael each featured in the run down.

A good Wednesday field of 74 including five visitors, a number of whom are regulars this time of year, for our August Monthly Medal sponsored by John Madill Toyota.

One of our regular southern visitors, Bill Smith, shot a very good 67 on Wednesday to take A Grade but, as a visitor, is not eligible to win the Monthly Medal so that prize went to Greg Michael with 69. Bill collected a $25.00 voucher. New member Kerry Davis took 3rd place with 70 on countback.

Ray Hand produced a very 'handy' 67 to take the B Grade Monthly Medal from Terry Wilson with 68 and David Attrill 69.

John McNamara continued his great form to take C Grade with a red hot 66 from Dennis Beckhaus 67 and Dave Chapman 68.

For those who weren't able to attend, the Special General Meeting held last night overwhelmingly passed the Motion to approve in principle the proposal from GemLife. Minutes of the meeting will be available shortly.

A full clubhouse indicated member interest with the general vibe after a presentation by GemLife and questions and answers being very positive.
